Manchester Storm Damage

August 5, 2020
I hope you and your families were able to stay safe yesterday as tropical storm Isaias barreled through Connecticut, and I ask that you remain cautious when inspecting and cleaning up some of the damage today.

This morning, United Illuminating and Eversource are reporting more than 717,000 outages combined throughout the state. In Manchester alone, Eversource is reporting 9,395 outages for 32.15% of the Town. This is one of the largest power outage events in the state's modern history, among the ranks of the October Snowstorm, Tropical Storm Irene, Hurricane Gloria, and Hurricane Sandy.

Any outages should be reported directly to Eversource. While Town staff are assisting in the storm clean up efforts, only Eversource crews can perform power restoration. The Town is working diligently to help ensure this happens as quickly as possible.

The Town of Manchester is warning that it could be a while before restoration. 8th District Manchester Fire Department and the Town of Manchester Fire Department - as well as Town Public Works, Police, and the Ambulance Service of Manchester are all working hard to clear the roads, respond to emergencies, and protect us.

Connecticut received a significant amount of the strongest winds from Tropical Storm Isaias as peak wind gusts reached as high as 68 mph in some parts of the state.

Public safety officials are warning residents that more branches and wires could come down even today after the storm has passed, so please be cautious and remember to treat downed lines as live/dangerous.

In an emergency, call 9-1-1.
