Money for New Haven Schools

October 13, 2020

Rep Patricia Dillon Joined other members of the New Haven delegation in applauding Governor Lamont and the State Bond Commission for approving $2 million in Alliance District funding for New Haven public schools. The Commission voted in favor of the allocation at a special meeting of the commission on September 29th.

State Senators Martin Looney and Gary Winfield, and State Representatives Juan Candelaria, Patricia Dillon, Michael DiMassa, Roland Lemar, Al Paolillo, Robyn Porter and Toni Walker released the following statement:

"The pandemic has forced New Haven schools to continue with remote learning for the safety of students, teachers, staff, parents, guardians and others in the school community. These challenges come with unanticipated expenditures that are likely to continue until a return to the traditional in-school education. This a significant grant for our school district and the funds help cover the costs associated with the district's response to COVID-19. We applaud Governor Lamont and bond commission members for approving this grant in a timely manner."

New Haven is slated to receive $2 million of a $30 million grant-in-aid to Alliance Districts. The funds may be used for general school building upgrades, including improvements to windows, doors, HVAC, communications and technology systems, lighting, energy efficiency, play areas, athletic fields, roof repairs and security equipment.
