Hilda E. Santiago

 

State Representative Hilda E. Santiago (D-Meriden) has been promoted Assistant Deputy Speaker Pro-Tempore by incoming Speaker-Designate Matt Ritter.

"Hilda served as one of my Deputy Majority Leaders with a great sense of commitment and dedication and now I am excited to appoint her to Assistant Deputy Speaker Pro-Tempore," Speaker-designate Ritter said. "She is always ready and willing to work without hesitation on issues important to our caucus and I know that she will excel in this new capacity. When choosing leaders to help move our legislative priorities forward, we must rely on those who can go the extra mile to get us to the finish line."

 

Santiago said, "I am grateful to Speaker-designate Ritter for the confidence placed in appointing me to serve in this new capacity. As the first female and Latina to be named to this high-ranking leadership position in the House, I am humbled and thrilled to work along with my colleagues to achieve our legislative goals this upcoming session. It is a great honor to work alongside Speaker-elect Ritter and Majority Leader-elect Jason Rojas, who is also the first Latino to hold the office of Majority Leader in the CT General Assembly."

Rep. Santiago was first elected in 2012 and will begin serving her 5^th legislative term in 2021.
