$5.6 Million Proposed for Manchester

February 11, 2021
Yesterday, Governor Lamont presented a two-year state budget to the legislature. The proposal recommends a $2.8 million increase in funds from FY2020 to FY2021 and an additional $2.8 million increase in funds from FY2021 to FY2022 for Manchester.

Here is what the proposed budget could mean for Manchester and its residents:

  • The proposed increase in both state and federal funding for Manchester is beneficial - providing additional resources to our town.
    • Municipal aid for Manchester is increased to a total of 43,776,218 this fiscal year and 46,623,674 in the next fiscal year.
    • This would be a total increase of $5.6 million in funds for Manchester over the two-year budget span.
  • More than $38.2 million in education aid for fiscal years 2021 and 2022.
    • This includes both Education Cost Sharing and federal pandemic money.
    • Education aid is the most significant piece of state aid the town receives and increasing funds over the next two years is beneficial to Manchester.
Yesterday's proposal is only the first step in a multi-month budget process. The next few months will be pivotal in that process. From here, the legislature and its committees will review the proposed budget and make changes, there will then be a public hearing on the “budget bill” where you can have your voices heard. I encourage you to follow and participate during the next steps in the process, which you can find below:
