Happy Weekend! Congrats, and deadlines

September 3, 2021
Happy Labor Day weekend!  I’m writing to remind you that on September 4, PUA, the temporary Connecticut Pandemic Unemployment Assistance provided by the CARES ACT, will expire.  You can still apply for PUA online today and tomorrow. All other federal (not state) unemployment programs expire as well.

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) temporarily expands unemployment insurance (UI) eligibility to self-employed workers, 1099 employees, "gig" workers, workers in jobs not covered by regular unemployment benefits, and independent contractors affected by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

Connecticut’s economy has come back, but recovery is uneven. New Haven’s job growth in the service economy was hit hard by the pandemic. Many of our neighbors may be unemployed or underemployed. In July, New Haven’s unemployment rate was 8.9%, the highest in our labor market area. Links to rental and energy assistance are below. In addition, another round of mortgage assistance may be on the way, so check with 211 for updates.
