Norwalk Delegation Celebrates Grants for Local Nonprofits

Norwalk Nonprofits Received over $700,000 in Grant Money from CT Humanities

 

NORWALK -  The Norwalk Legislative Delegation celebrated several Norwalk based nonprofits who received a CT Cultural Fund Operating Support Grant from CT Humanities at press conference at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking, a Norwalk based nonprofit that received a CT Cultural Fund Operating Grant. 

"I am delighted to see the Center for Contemporary Printmaking, an artistic staple in Norwalk for over 25 years, receiving a $31,200 grant from CT Humanities," said Rep. Dathan.  "They do amazing work in supporting, preserving, and advancing the art of original prints for aspiring artists of every generation.  Congratulations to all the recipients!"

"I am thrilled for all of these wonderful organizations that enrich lives in our community. This is a great example of how the state and local towns should work together.  As soon as I learned that the funding had become available, I shared the news with the Center for Contemporary Printmaking and other organizations.  Information on opportunities don’t often trickle down, and it is our responsibility as legislators to ensure that small businesses and nonprofits have access to the tools that will allow them to prosper," said Rep. Thomas.

"I am thrilled that over 20 cultural and arts organizations here in Norwalk will be receiving state grants to provide our community with programming and services that enrich the lives of all of us," said Senate Majority Leader Duff. "These grants come at a pivotal time as organizations recover from the economic fallout caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, it will strengthen their ability to serve the community because this distribution of grants is aimed at connecting teachers and students to humanities and arts content."

"All of these non-profits organizations have provided life-enriching services for many years and I congratulate them on receiving the awards," Rep. Simms said. "I have had the privilege of working closely with some of these organizations and seeing the great work they do including The Maritime Aquarium, Stepping Stones Museum, Wall Street Theater, The Oyster Festival, Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County/ The Art Space and the Norwalk International Cultural Exchange. They are indispensable and merit all of our support," said Rep. Simms.

"Congratulations are in order to all the extraordinary nonprofit organizations scheduled to receive well deserved grants from CT Humanities," Rep. Perone said. "Their commitment to our community and the respective services they offer to all our residents is commendable and I am glad they are being recognized."

Norwalk’s museums and arts bring vibrancy to our city, and it is critical we continue to support the work of these incredible organizations. Thank you to the Norwalk delegation for their efforts in getting this funding to our museums, cultural, humanities, and arts organizations," said Mayor Rilling.

  • Historic Rowayton – $8,900
  • Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum – $33,600
  • Music Theatre of CT – $42,100
  • Norwalk Historical Society – $12,100
  • Norwalk International Cultural Exchange – $8,500
  • Norwalk Preservation Trust – $5,600
  • Norwalk Seaport Association – $55,300
  • Norwalk Symphony Orchestra – $24,500
  • Rowayton Arts Center – $20,200
  • Southern Connecticut Camerata – $5,700
  • The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk – $355,200The Norwalk Youth Symphony – $21,200
  • Thomas/Ortiz Dance – $6,000
  • Wall Street Theater – $39,900
  •  Stepping Stones Museum for Children – $5,000

CT Humanities awarded grants to 624 non-profit museums and cultural, humanities, and arts organizations throughout the state. In total, $16 million was issued.
