Weekly Meetings 2.8

February 13, 2022

As you know, the work of a legislator does not stop when session ends. I spend most of my time during the week attending meetings and advocating for legislation that will positively impact the 57th district. Below is a list of the events I attended in the last few days.

Update from E +T Committee

Before Thursday's session, I attended the Energy and Technology Committee. During the meeting a bill was raised that enable PURA to consider well water contamination's impact on health. The bill was passed to be raised as a concept unanimously.  This a great step towards eliminating well water contamination in our community.  I will continue to update you once I have more information.

PURA Outreach Event

Earlier this week, I led an outreach event with Marissa Gillet, the Chairman of the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), to discuss the office’s role and how their functions impact our community, followed by a Q&A session to address the concerns of constituents. State Proclamation for Marci Worthington

I had the honor of presenting a state proclamation to Marci Worthington for her act of kindness towards the Laffin Family of Ellington, in recognition of her exceptional service and compassion to the town of Ellington.

Continuation of Emergency Declarations & Limited Executive Orders Informational Hearing

On Tuesday, there was public informational hearing regarding the extension of the Governor’s EOs. The hearing featured testimony from legislators as well as the public. Click here to watch the hearing.

Call with Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR)

After the call with PURA, I had a conversation with CCAR.

Every community in our state has to face the opioid pandemic and other addictions head-on. We like to believe that our communities are untouched but  there are parents, children, and friends throughout the state supporting their loved ones in addition to or grieving an addiction-related loss.

One of my asks to chairs this year was related to supporting mental health and addiction services. If you want to collaborate with me, reach out.

Here are some things I am always working on to benefit the district:

  • Worked on citations for several constituents
  • Email and phone calls to follow up on local issues
  • Keep in touch with municipal CEOs to collaborate!
  • Sharing funding announcements with local orgs who might not see things I get
  • Stay in touch with local PDs
Stay in touch with local school admin
  • Meeting with constituents about local issues and asks
  • Planning / organizing outreach events and office hours to keep open and transparent office
