Increasing Funding for Child Care Centers

March 21, 2022

I was proud to stand with my legislative colleagues, child care providers, and advocates in calling for immediate assistance to childcare centers across our state.

It's time to work to increase public investment in the early childhood system to provide livable wages and benefits for all early childhood educators. This should include working with our local colleges to change requirement standards and/or possibly streamline certificates and educational requirements until we can build our child care workforce to appropriate numbers.

There will be an Education Committee Public Hearing on Monday, March 21st at 11:00 a.m. on HB 5465 - An Act Increasing Early Childhood Educator Salaries and Expanding Child Care Opportunities for Families. If this is an area of interest or concern for you, I encourage you to testify. Submit the on-line testimony registration form here or email written testimony to EDtestimony@cga.ct.gov.

Morning Without Child Care Rally
Earlier this week, I had the great opportunity to attend the Morning Without Child Care rally at Thames Valley Council for Community Actions (TVCCA). Parents and caregivers were there to advocate for livable wages for educators.
