March 24, 2016

Rep. Steve Stafstrom joined with members Bridgeport legislative delegation to welcome the State Bond Commission's approval of $2,963,222 for Bridgeport’s Housatonic Community College to continue renovations and expansion of its classrooms.

“Housatonic Community College provides an important start to higher education opportunities for hundreds of students,” Rep. Stafstrom said, “These funds will help to continue the ongoing plans to renovate the school’s facilities to deliver an even more enriching student experience.”

Housatonic offers associate degree programs in preparation for transfer to four-year institutions, as well as occupationally oriented associate degree and certificate programs. Short-term, non-credit courses, seminars and workshops, as well as targeted student services help meet community and personal enrichment needs. These programs prepare students for employment, and advancement in business, industry, manufacturing, health services, fine arts, theater, digital media, early childhood education, natural sciences, computer arts and information systems, and human services. The college also assists local businesses and institutions to train and update the skills of their workers.

Over $37 million was previously approved for renovations including a four-story addition between Lafayette Boulevard and the current front entrance to the college, as well as renovations within Lafayette Hall. The renovations and expansion will include new art studios, specialized classrooms, science laboratory renovations and health career program laboratory classrooms.
