$250,000 on State Bond Commission Agenda for Upgrades to Black Rock Little League Fields

May 19, 2022

I'm pleased to share with you that $250,000 for improvements to the Black Rock Little League fields at Ellsworth Park has been included on the State Bond Commission's May 26th meeting agenda

I would like to express my gratitude to Governor Lamont and members of the State Bond Commission for including this investment on the agenda, which will support the League's continued growth and our youth athletes who participate in the program.

Black Rock Little League has experienced a resurgence in participation and my hope is that these improved fields will help maintain that growth. As a volunteer coach for the league, I know first hand how these programs help foster social skills, teamwork and perseverance in our youth.

"As we work to enhance recreation opportunities for our children, this funding will go a long way to supporting our youth athletes and growing Black Rock Little League. I am grateful to Rep. Stafstrom, Governor Lamont, and the State Bond Commission for backing this investment in our kids and our community," said President of Black Rock Little League Brian Kabel.

In the past several years, these fields have had drainage issues and poor upkeep. While the plans for the funds are still being developed, I am planning to work with Black Rock Little League and our city's Parks Department to use this funding to help improve field drainage, install synthetic turf at the 2 back fields, and upgrade fencing and our dugouts.

The Commission is expected to vote to release this funding during the May 26th meeting.
