Summer Events

June 8, 2022
With school break kicking off at the end of next week in Ridgefield, and community events taking place weekly, it is really starting to feel like summer!

Over the past week I have had the privilege of joining a number of community-led events, and saw many of you there.

Below are some highlights of these events, as well as information on ParkConneCT, a great way to access CT parks and beaches for FREE all summer.

FREE SHUTTLES TO STATE PARKS & BEACHES
ParkConneCT, a transportation service that offers FREE buses to Connecticut beaches and state parks, is now open for the summer season. This expanded service will run through Labor Day. ParkConneCT makes our state parks and beaches more accessible, ensuring that all residents will be able to enjoy Connecticut's beautiful outdoor offerings.

The following parks are included in the ParkConneCT program:

  • Hammonasset Beach State Park (Madison)
  • Silver Sands State Park (Milford)
  • Fort Trumbull State Park (New London)
  • Sleeping Giant State Park (Hamden)
  • Sherwood Island State Park (Westport)
  • Osbornedale State Park (Derby)
  • Indian Well State Park (Shelton)

As a reminder, all statewide buses will continue to operate without a fare until December 1st, 2022.

RIDGEFIELD PRIDE IN THE PARK
Last week, I celebrated Ridgefield's third annual Pride in the Park. Although the event is fairly new to our community, a committed and supportive crew of students, parents, and other remarkable volunteers turned it into a staple celebration in our Town. It was not only an honor to participate, but an absolute joy.

Please remember, I am always available to discuss issues within the LGBTQIA community, so please don't hesitate to reach out.

EAGLE SCOUT COURT OF HONOR
On Sunday, I had the privilege of sharing in the celebration of young people reaching the goals they’ve set. Congratulations to Eagle Scouts, Tim, Joseph, Kieran, Charlie and Jared, and thank you for your valuable contributions to our community!

TOWN HALL EVENT
Earlier this week, I was able to sit down with many of you and share just a brief snippet of the nation-leading legislation we passed this session. Some of those major bills included:

I was proud to join conversations throughout session surrounding these bills in order to get them signed into law. I remain committed to our community and it's legislative priorities, so please reach out to me any time to address any policies you would like to be heard next session.

IN THE NEWS
Another piece of legislation I was proud to help lead the passage on was the Connecticut Stillborn Tax Credit, which passed in the budget. The financial burden that falls on these families, who are navigating what is likely the most traumatic event of their lives, is something for which we can and should provide relief. These parents deserve the right to grieve and heal in the manner that works best for them, not simply in a manner they can afford. A credit like this doesn’t eliminate the burden, but it can certainly help.

The groundbreaking piece of legislation was reported on by Bloomberg, you can read the story here.

STANDING WITH UKRAINE
Sunday was one of those days that made me proud to be apart of such a supportive community. In partnership with town organizations, Ridgefield came together to express solidarity with the Ukrainian people, offer a message of hope, and raise funds to help those in need, according to a release.

There were food trucks, Ukrainian delicacies, Ukrainian crafts, two bands playing rock and blues music, and family activities, which included sunflower seed planting! I was honored to speak at the event and show my support for all those fighting for freedom in Ukraine.
