Reps Berger-Girvalo, Gucker & Sen. Haskell Secure Funding Two Ridgefield Elementary School Playgrounds

Earlier this year, the town of Ridgefield surveyed our elementary schools' playgrounds for their accessibility through the Institute of Human Centered Design. The study revealed that Barlow Mountain Elementary School and Ridgebury Elementary School are the schools that require immediate upgrades and will require new construction to bring the playground into full ADA compliance.
The town applied for funding through the state and I advocated to the Governor's office on their behalf. Tomorrow it is expected that the State Bonding Commission will approve $300,000 for the construction of the two new playgrounds. The estimated time of completion is June of 2023.
The funding for the new construction will ensure that all students can participate in group play activities with peers during and outside of the school day. I thank Governor Ned Lamont and the State Bonding Commission for their consideration.
