Rep. Berger-Girvalo Awarded For Legislative Work In Expanded Access To Breast Cancer Screenings

November 4, 2022

Earlier this week, The Radiological Society of Connecticut recognized the legislative work I was involved in with the Public Health committee this past session. In Public Act 22-33, access to healthcare services and breast cancer screenings for women in Connecticut expanded. This law also mandates that women receive Breast Tomosynthesis, which is the best way for physicians to identify even the smallest cancers at the earliest stage because it is a three-dimensional mammogram.

In Public Act 22-90,  a woman receiving an annual mammogram and having a problem will not be required to pay out-of-pocket for follow-up treatment or surgery.

Access to care and early detection of breast cancer is how lives are saved. I am grateful for the award and thank the Radiological Society of Connecticut for recognizing the hard work of the Public Health Committee and the resounding impact it will have on so many residents here in Connecticut.
