State Funding Supports Town Dock North Pier

April 7, 2023

I commend the State Bond Commission for green lighting $250,000 to finance a grant-in-aid to support the Town Dock North Pier in Stonington. The funds were awarded through the Connecticut Port Authority’s Small Harbor Improvement Projects Program. This particular grant will cover the entire cost of the project and augments the $900,000 federal grant already provided to the town with money for needed rehabilitation work and upgrades at the Stonington Town Dock.

This is a huge win for Stonington because the money will support the continued operations of Connecticut’s Last Fishing Fleet. Our commercial fishing companies at the town docks will reap the benefits. Stonington’s Borough and the 41st district have been doing sea to table since 1750, and I applaud the Bond Commission for supporting our small businesses and shoreline economy.

The goal of these funds is to maximize potential for Connecticut’s ports and harbors, to enhance development of the state’s maritime commerce and industries, and to coordinate the planning and funding for related capital projects.
