Breaking Ground on the New Bassick High School

May 23, 2023

Ground has been broken on the new Bassick High School, which is expected to open in time for the 2025-26 school year.

The new school, which will move to the city's South End from its current West End location, will serve 1,250 students and house an athletic field and 48 classrooms. It will also introduce new trade programs in advanced manufacturing and aeronautical technology. Bridgeport needs to prepare students to fill some of the estimated 100,000 job vacancies in Connecticut.

Whether trades, advanced manufacturing and and aeronautical technology or public safety, we have a lot of jobs to fill, and students are going to prepared for them at the new Bassick High School.

As a member of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, I am proud that I was able to secure 80% of the funding for this project, which will drive our local economy for decades by providing more educational and workforce opportunities and enabling a brighter future for our students.
