Laws Effective October 1

September 27, 2023

October 1 is a traditional date for new laws to go into effect. 2023 was such an exemplary session for you and our neighbors.  So I thought I’d report on the dozens of new laws.

Two of them deal with protecting you from gun violence (Public Act 23-53 and PA 23-203).  Gun responsibility has been my top priority for decades. I’m sending you a special report to you about this year’s progress.

I’m especially concerned about how we treat senior citizens. PA 23-161, which I co-sponsored, protects senior citizens from financial exploitation through their bank accounts.

Children benefit from PA 23-123, which establishes a new misdemeanor protecting children from child sex predators who use an interactive computer service or text message to knowingly persuade, induce, entice, or coerce anyone under 18.

Other new laws range from preventing wrong way driving with a test program on 120 highway exit ramps (PA-23-51), PA 23-16, which protects your data privacy, PA 23-102 which protects electric rate payers, and environmental protections like PA 23-6 prohibiting hand-harvesting of ecologically important horseshoe crabs or their eggs from state waters.
These are just some of the laws, follow the link below for the full list - https://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/content/aeauto.asp?

Your calls and emails to me, and testimony at public hearings during this year's legislative session had a direct influence on these new laws. They make it easier for me to represent you. Thank you for your input, and please continue sharing your views and making your voice heard during our legislative process.
