The Connecticut State Department of Education awarded approximately $180,000 to Hartford and West Hartford Public Schools to expand dual credit offerings. This move is part of a $3.8 million statewide investment to enable more high school students to earn college credits prior to graduation through partnerships formed between high schools as well as public/private colleges and universities.

  • Expand partnership with Capital Community College to offer a required Personal Finance graduation credited course
  • Ensure teachers are receiving professional training and coaching
  • Create an educator pipeline through Bulkeley High School’s Public Service Pathway in partnership with Burr and Bellizzi Middle Schools in collaboration with Central Connecticut State University
  • Provide curriculum development and coaching for teachers to support Computer Science and Gaming Concepts

West Hartford Schools received $89,550 to:

  • Expand partnership with UConn to potentially add six more courses to pair with current high school classes
  • Engage a diverse student population in college credit-bearing opportunities
  • Include at least one college level course offering in all disciplines
  • Expand number of courses at district’s alternative high school program
  • Build new instructor pools, including paying for graduate tuition for teachers to obtain additional certification
