What's Our Rep Been Up To?
In honor of Manufacturing Month, I joined Comptroller Sean Scanlon for a tour of the Manufacturing Advancement Center at Ella Grasso Technical School in Groton to speak with trainees about their experiences. We also sat in on some of their classes and spoke with instructors.
Three Rivers Community College faculty at Grasso Tech teach the courses at no-cost to students. Hundreds of individuals have been trained through this program and are now working for Electric Boat and EAMA RSP manufacturers. You could have a new job in manufacturing in less than two months.

The weather held up for a fireworks celebration in honor of Mystic Aquarium’s 50th anniversary!
The Mystic River was a beautiful sight from the Mystic Seaport. Thank you to the Mystic Aquarium team for ultimately making yesterday’s festivities possible!

I absolutely loved the behind the scenes tour at a small business called Moromi. Co-Founder Robert Florence and his team create handcrafted soy sauces, miso, and hot sauces based on traditional fermentation techniques using koji and their natural microbiome to transform a variety of local ingredients into specialty condiments.

I look forward to seeing Moromi continue to flourish and fundamentally believe regenerative agriculture and aquaculture continues to be a key building block for restaurants in the Greater Mystic area and our regional economy!

Thanks to Mujeres Entre Culturas for hosting this wonderful celebration in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month at the Groton Community Center. It was lovely to participate alongside my mom!
This was a great way for our community to come together to honor cultures across the Caribbean, South America, and Central America through our rich history, music, and dance.

Groton Public Schools Receive Funding For Tutors
The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) is providing Groton Public Schools with $543,123 to build and boost high-dosage tutoring for more than 850 students.

This is part of a larger $11.5 million investment to 46 school districts across the state to address learning loss following the pandemic, ensuring students have intensive, curriculum-aligned support to close academic gaps.

With this grant, Groton is taking a vital step in ensuring that all students have access to the individualized support they need to succeed. High-dosage tutoring is a proven intervention that can help our youth make significant gains in their academic achievement, and we thank CSDE for supporting this great initiative!

The Connecticut High-Dosage Tutoring program will allocate funding to schools for the 2023-24 and the first half of the 2024-25 academic years.
