$20K Competition for Your Child's Education

October 4, 2024

Our students are getting exposed to healthy meals as part of National Farm to School Month. I'll break down why this initiative is so important for our children.

Your child could win up to $20,000 in a competition toward their future education. They can write an essay, create a video or artwork to win the grand prize! I'll let you know how they can apply and how much time they have left to submit their work!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we're doing all we can to support families who have been touched by this disease. I'll let you know how doctors say you can be proactive to help yourself and loved ones.

Here are the sections in this week's email:

  • National Farm to School Month

National Farm to School Month

Vernon Public Schools is celebrating National Farm to School Month by serving fresh, local produce in October. Our district is proud to take part of CT Grown for CT Kids Week from October 7-11 where we'll introduce new recipes in our cafeterias.

Check out our upcoming farm-to-school events and menus below!

National Farm to School Month promotes healthy eating by encouraging students to consume fresh, local foods, which helps them develop better nutrition habits. This initiative also supports local farmers, boosting local economies and fostering sustainable agricultural practices.

Follow the National Farm to School Network on its blog, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to see inspiring examples of farm to school success and innovation.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Honoring the strength of survivors, supporting those currently fighting, and remembering those we’ve lost. As your representative, I’m committed to advocating for access to early detection, treatment, research funding, and community support for those fighting breast cancer.

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month begins, I’m thinking of all the families in our community who have been affected by this disease. This month and all year long, I'm committed to fighting for those affected by breast cancer here in Connecticut. We will never stop working to find cures, address the needs of patients and their families, and make treatments affordable.

Health experts urge women 40 and older to make sure to schedule a mammogram. Doctors use them to look for early signs of breast cancer. Women with a family history of breast cancer are more risk. Thankfully, advanced technology has improved a doctor’s ability to detect cancer. If a doctor identifies cancer early, the survival rate increases dramatically.
