Dear Neighbor,

Last month, Governor Lamont signed House Bill 7042 - An Act Concerning Implementation of the Firearm Industry Responsibility Act into law. This bill, which I cosponsored, addresses several issues related to firearms:

  • Creates a mandate that requires companies in the firearm industry to establish, implement, and enforce “reasonable controls” designed to prevent sales or the distribution of firearms to people banned by law from owning one.
  • Restricts companies in the firearm industry from advertising their products in a way that promotes unlawful sales or use or an unreasonable public safety risk.
  • Permits a person who has suffered harm due to a violation, a municipality, or the state to sue a member of the firearm industry under these provisions

By passing the Firearm Industry Responsibility Act, we're empowering our state and communities to pursue justice and encourage responsible practices within the gun industry.

Sincerely,

Patricia Dillon
