Dear Neighbor,
This week, Governor Lamont announced $12 million in funding through the CTDOT's Community Connectivity Grant Program (CCGP), awarded to 17 towns and cities, including $800,000 for Manchester. This program supports local infrastructure initiatives that improve safety and make conditions more pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly. The goal of the projects funded through this program is to improve transportation safety and mobility.
In this round of CCGP funding, Manchester was awarded $800,000 for the Downtown Manchester Cycle Track, which is included in the Downtown Manchester Improvements Project. A cycle track is a separate bike lane dedicated just to cyclists, which will mainly be along the west side of Main Street. Adding a designated bike lane along this road will allow cyclists to be safer with motorized vehicle traffic, and will encourage more residents who bike to commute to the area.
The Downtown area has always been a popular location for our community to gather, from large events to being a well-known area for food, coffee, and other activities. As the town plans improvements for the area, the addition of this bike lane will enhance the safety of cyclists and drivers while also encouraging more residents to use alternative modes of transportation. This is a major investment from the state in the Manchester community, and I am grateful for their continued support on this project.
