Sewer Maintenance Project Taking Place Over the Next Few Weeks

January 9, 2026

Enfield's Water Pollution Control will be cleaning and inspecting sewer mains over the next several weeks. WPC crews were on-site today, and Eversource started work yesterday.

This project will impact streets mostly in the Thompsonville section of town.

Affected streets include:

  • Alden Avenue
  • Lincoln Street
  • College Street
  • Church Street
  • Pleasant Street
  • Whitworth Street
  • West Street
  • North River Street
  • Tariff Street
  • Martin Street
  • New Street
  • Northwood Street
  • Lafayette Street
  • Windsor Street
  • White Street
  • Union Street
  • Hartford Avenue
  • Bigelow Avenue

Sometimes problems can occur when pressure in the sewer lines forces water out of one or more toilets, showers, tubs, sinks, or floor drains in homes.

To keep this water contained and prevent damage, WPC is asking residents to:

  • Keep toilets as they normally function, drape a towel over the ceramic rim of the toilet, and close the lid and seat onto the towel.
  • Cover all basement floor drains, kitchen sinks, and shower drains with an old towel and a weighted object over the towel.
  • Close the drains in all sinks and bathtubs. Cleaning may evacuate the water from the traps in your floor drains, toilets, sinks, tubs, and showers.
  • After the cleaning, we recommend that you run water in all drains to refill the traps. Filling the traps prevents sewer odors from entering your home.
