Dear Neighbor,
Property Tax Break for Disabled Connecticut Veterans
This year the 100% Disabled Veteran's Tax Exempt bill will be taken up in Finance Committee, I hope to see, have and help Veterans, Family Members and Advocates come out in support when the bill is heard during the Finance Committee meeting.
Doing this is way overdue to honor and give back to our veterans:
1. Recognition and Gratitude: It acknowledges the sacrifices made by these veterans in service to their country and demonstrates gratitude for their contributions.
2. Financial Relief: Many disabled veterans face financial challenges due to their disabilities. Exempting them from property tax provides financial relief, allowing them to allocate resources to other essential needs.
3. Quality of Life: Property tax exemption can significantly improve the quality of life for disabled veterans, reducing financial stress and allowing them to focus on their health and well-being.
4. Retention and Recruitment: Providing benefits like property tax exemptions can also encourage veterans to stay in Connecticut or move there, contributing to the state's workforce and community.

Pushing for Tax Equity
I recently stood with colleagues to join the call for Tax Equity to find solutions to improve & change the tax bracket in Connecticut. A new study revealed the top 1% pays less than 10% of their income to state and local taxes. This is something needing immediate change to insure we all at least pay the same. Those that are rich/super rich should pay just as much as those who make less.

Great article in regards to Director and playwright Sharece Sellem-Hannah's Silence On The Streets Documentary - New London is a diverse community that values learning from one another and sharing experiences. Whites (Non-Hispanics) constitute about 45% of the town's population, with Hispanics and Blacks making up about 34% and 13%, respectively.

We are excited to announce the upcoming screening of the documentary "Silence on the Streets" will be played at in the City of New London, Connecticut at The Garde Arts Center on April 13, 2024 at 7:30 pm.
