Dear Neighbor,
This weekend I joined Engaging Heaven Church New London for the first service after the collapse of the church. They had a great spirit filled service thanks to the gratitude of the Garde Arts Center.

Celebrating Black History Month
Black History originated in 1926 when historian Carter G. Woodson and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History designated the second week of February as "Negro History Week." It was later expanded to a month-long celebration in 1976. This observance is crucial for recognizing and honoring the rich contributions of the Black community to world history.
The significance of Black History Month lies in promoting awareness, fostering understanding, and acknowledging the resilience and achievements of Black individuals throughout history. It serves as a platform to highlight their vital role in shaping culture, science, politics, and various other fields.
Examples of remarkable achievements by the Black community include the civil rights activism of Martin Luther King Jr., the literary brilliance of Maya Angelou, the groundbreaking scientific contributions of Mae Jemison, and the athletic prowess of Jesse Owens. These accomplishments underscore the importance of recognizing and celebrating Black history beyond the confines of February.
We should embrace the opportunity to celebrate Black history consistently throughout the year, fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.

Connecticut Veterans Legal Center Opening
Thank you to Suisman & Shapiro Attorney at Law for the dedication and Ribbon Cutting of the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center Opening. Providing veterans with free legal services is a commendable practice for several reasons. Firstly, it recognizes and honors their service to the country, ensuring they receive support in navigating legal complexities. Secondly, it addresses potential challenges such as accessing benefits, employment issues, or housing disputes, contributing to their overall well-being.
Lastly, it fosters a sense of gratitude and community, reinforcing the notion that society values and supports those who have sacrificed for their nation.
