Recap of the Week

Community Investment Fund

This past week, I had the privilege of attending the Community Investment Fund Meeting, where we allocated $77 million in investments to community projects and organizations making a positive impact across every corner of the state. I was especially proud to support the projects directly impacting districts and towns represented by a few of the Deputy Majority Leaders, including Rep. Turco (D-Newington, New Britain), Rep. McGee (D-West Haven), Rep. D Johnson (D-Norwalk, Westport), Rep. Dillion (D-New Haven), Rep S. Johnson (D-Windham), as well as Rep. Santanella (D-Enfield) who provided the much needed push to provide his community with funding that will transform an underutilized and vacant mall into housing and other revenue opportunities.

PSA: SCAM ALERT!

The Central District Major Crime (CDMC) Headquarters has received multiple reports from Connecticut residents about phone calls from unknown male callers claiming to be members of the Connecticut State Police (CSP) or the U.S. Marshal Services. The scammers, who speak with a thick accent, tell the victims they are under investigation for “money laundering” and request personal information over the phone. The calls appear to be coming from 860-706-5652, which is the CDMC main landline. However, these calls are NOT made by CDMC, and it's believed to be a scam attempt.

While these scam attempts are being investigated, we want to inform the public that these calls are NOT from the Connecticut State Police. Please note that Troopers and Law Enforcement Agencies will never ask for money or personal information over the phone.

If you receive a call that claims to be from the police or any other government agency, DO NOT provide any personal information. Hang up immediately and verify the call by contacting the organization directly using an official phone number. If the call seems suspicious, report it immediately by calling 911.

🚨 **ALERT: E-ZPass Scam Texts on the Rise!** 🚨 🚫 Don’t fall for fake E-ZPass messages claiming you've been charged or need to update your account! These are **scam texts** designed to steal your personal info.

💡 **What to do**:
1. **Don’t click any links** in the message.
2. **Don’t respond** to the text.
3. **Report it** to E-ZPass and your mobile carrier. Stay safe and protect your info! 🔒 #ScamAlert

Don’t forget - you only need to register if you wish to provide testimony. If you want to observe the hearings, you can tune in and watch them live on the committee’s YouTube channel.

Register to testify and learn more about this week’s schedule, including the bills that will be heard, in this week’s CGA Bulletin.

Town Hall on Roundabouts

Mayor Connor S. Martin, in partnership with the Connecticut Department of Transportation, and with the support of BETA Group, invites residents to a Town Hall information meeting to dispel some of the myths about roundabouts, provide modern safety data, and share examples of successful roundabouts across the state. The presentation will also include a review of design concepts and plans for roundabouts right here in East Hartford.

The panelists include Mayor Martin; Scott Bushee, Principal Engineer with the Division of Highway Design at the CT Department of Transportation, and Chairman of the CTDOT’s  Roundabout Committee; East Hartford Chief of Police, Mack Hawkins; East Hartford Director of Public Works, Alex Trujillo; and East Hartford Town Engineer, Doug Wilson.

When: Wednesday, March 26th at 6:00PM

Where: East Hartford Town Hall, Town Council Chambers and virtually on Microsoft Teams (Meeting ID: 251 897 175 694; Passcode: rR2J7jT7)

Of this upcoming dialogue, Mayor Martin said, “This is an opportunity for residents, to learn more about these important traffic calming measures and how they contribute to a safer, more connected community. Roundabouts are proven to reduce severe crashes common at traditional signalized intersections. This initiative reflects East Hartford’s commitment to improving roadway safety, easing traffic flow, and enhancing the overall quality of life for everyone in our town, so it’s important to be a part of this important conversation early on and become an advocate within our community as we move East Hartford forward.”
