Love Your Block Party!
I had the honor of attending a “Love Your Block Party” event, which was a vibrant celebration of  Hartford’s Barry Square community. Maple Avenue was lined up with tents and people last Sunday focused on health, wellness, and support for our small businesses.
It was wonderful to see so many members of our community come together to share resources, connect with one another, and celebrate the heart of Barry Square. The party truly highlighted the strength and resilience of our neighborhood.

A huge thank you to Janice Castle, Director of Community Engagement in the City of Hartford, for working with the Neighborhood Revitalization Zone for creating this event and making it a success.

Many members of the community joined the block party including:

  • Hartford Fire Chief Rodney Barco
  • Interim Hartford Police Chief Kenny Howell
  • Long-time community advocate Hyacinth Yennie
  • Commissioner for the Civilian Police Review Board Victor Luna
  • Director of South End Senior Wellness Center Awilda Rodriguez

Domestic Violence Awareness Month
In Connecticut, we’ve made strides to protect survivors of domestic violence by passing critical legislation that strengthens protections and expands resources. From enhanced restraining orders to our state’s Red Flag Law, we’re ensuring that every survivor has the help they need to stay safe.
I will always stand with domestic violence survivors and work to build a future free from abuse. You are not alone.
