Lower Electric Bills On the Way

August 8, 2025

Your electric bill could be coming down as early as next month! I'll tell you how the state is stepping up to make energy more affordable.

Dozens of incredible Latino legislators from across the country visited Hartford for a valuable summit. Please read below to learn what we discussed with the governor.

Please join me on Saturday for a parade, concert, and party celebrating the West Indies at Bushnell Park. Keep scrolling for more information on how your entire family can enjoy amazing food, music, and culture.

These are the sections in today's email:

Lower Electric Bills

Lower electric prices are on the way! The State Bond Commission approved the release of $155 million to reduce the public benefit charges on your bill. This action is a result of bipartisan energy affordability legislation (Senate Bill 4) that I was proud to support, and as Vice Chair of the Energy & Technology Committee, helped lead passage during the 2025 legislative session.

Specifically, the funding will reduce costs associated with:

  • Hardship protection programs: $125 million will go towards assisting low-income customers who struggle to pay their electric bills
  • Electric vehicle charging programs: $30 million will cover costs related to the state's EV charging infrastructure and integration

You may see a reduction on your bill as early as September, continuing for several months into 2026. Another round of state bond funding is expected to be released in 2026 and should enable this savings to continue into at least the first several months of 2027.

This initiative is one step toward making energy more affordable for everyone and complements a:

  • 25% reduction in public benefits charges approved by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) in May
  • Supply rate reductions for Eversource (13%) and United Illuminating (14%) that took effect on July 1

Latino Legislative Leaders Meet in Hartford

It was an incredible honor for the Connecticut Delegation to host this year’s Board of Latino Legislative Leaders (BLLL) Summer Meeting in Hartford. As a member of BLLL, I was proud to share how Connecticut is advancing bold, equity-driven legislation that uplifts Latino families and strengthens our communities – from expanding access to early childhood education and healthcare, to investing in workforce development and immigration rights.
Across the country, BLLL members are reshaping public policy and re-imagining what is possible – pushing for justice, opportunity, and inclusion. In Connecticut and beyond, we are proving when Latino leaders have a seat at the table, entire communities benefit.

Thank you to Governor Ned Lamont for generously opening the doors at the Governor's Residence to welcome us. We are also grateful to House Speaker Matt Ritter for rolling out the red carpet and showcasing the best of our capital city and state.

After a powerful series of sessions in Hartford, we continued to Boston where we held wonderful conversations, proposed real solutions, built camaraderie, and much more. We look forward to visiting our BLL family at our next winter meeting in San Antonio, Texas.

Celebrating National Night Out

It was a privilege to participate in National Night Out at Goodwin Park in Hartford and to spend time with so many wonderful families, neighbors, and first responders. The energy was incredible --  especially for kids, who had enjoyed fun activities and games, delicious food, and the chance to meet police officers and firefighters in a fun and welcoming environment.

A similar event was held at Lozada Park, and that too was a fantastic celebration of community and public safety. National Night Out is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together, and it's celebrated not just here in Connecticut, but in communities across the country including Puerto Rico.

A heartfelt thank you to the Hartford Police Department, Hartford Fire Department, Bank of America's Hispanic Organization for Leadership and Advancement, Hartford HealthCare, and all the incredible groups who made this evening possible. Your commitment to building trust, safety, and connection truly made the night a success.
