National Night Out & Free Home Repairs for Veterans

You're invited to join me on Tuesday for National Night Out, which is an opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. I'll let you know when and where this event is taking place and how your kids can get a free backpack full of school supplies.

A nonprofit is offering FREE, simple home repairs to local veterans and their spouses. Please read below to find out the eligibility requirements. 

Women-owned and child care businesses are encouraged to apply for small business grants. Keep scrolling to learn more about the funds and the qualifications.

Join Me for National Night Out!

Join me for National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the South Street Entrance of Goodwin Park. The first 100 students who attend will receive a free backpack full of school supplies courtesy of Bank of America's Hispanic Organization for Leadership and Advancement (HOLA)!

This free event is an opportunity for the community to meet with police officers and develop new bonds in a stress-free environment. 

National Night Out is an annual community building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer.

You are welcome to attend a different National Night Out event taking place from 4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on August 5 at the Boys and Girls Club of Hartford at 170 Sigourney Street in Hartford.
 

Veterans Eligible for Free Home Repairs

Do you know a veteran who could use some help with their house? The nonprofit House of Heroes is offering free home repairs to veterans and/or their spouses in Hartford County over the next few months. Veterans can apply and individuals can serve as their sponsor by CLICKING HERE.

The requirements for the veteran receiving assistance is: 

  • Being a military or public safety veteran or their spouse
  • Needing financial and/or physical assistance with home repair
  • Owning and occupying the home to be repaired

House of Heroes only offers free repairs that can be performed in one day.

 

Apply Now For Small Business Grants

The Women's Business Development Council invites women-owned and child care businesses to apply for grants.

Let's start with the Child Care Business Opportunity Fund, which provides grants of up to $25,000 to qualified licensed and aspiring child care businesses. The program offers grants targeting different stages of business, from start-ups to those ready to expand. Qualifying child care businesses can apply from now through August 31. CLICK HERE for more information. The Women's Business Development Council invites women-owned and child care businesses to apply for grants.

The Ignite Program is taking applications for up to $10,000 that support the growth of women-owned businesses in Connecticut. Here are some of the qualifications:

  • The company must have been in business for two or more years
  • Applicants must have revenues between $25K and $2 million
