Groundbreaking for Borinqueneers Monument in New Britain

August 8, 2017

I am pleased that after years of hard work, the much anticipated Borinqueneers Memorial is getting off the ground. I was proud to join my New Britain colleagues and several others for the groundbreaking ceremony. The 65th Infantry Puerto Rican regiment of the United States Army, known as the Borinqueneers, served in combat roles including World War I, World War II, and the Korean War, and has distinguished itself many times over the years.

Many community activists, local and state leaders worked together for years to secure funding for this project, including fundraisers and rallies, in addition to the State Bond Commission granting $300,000 in 2016 to support this effort. I delighted to stand in support of this much deserved memorial and look forward to its completion.
