New Education LawsSeptember 9, 2019
It’s back to school season. So I wanted to take a moment to bring you up to speed on some of the important new laws we passed this session to make sure our kids get the best education possible.
- We updated our state’s bullying and school climate laws to create a taskforce to protect the social, emotional, and physical wellbeing of all students. (PA 19-166)
- We are requiring public schools to teach computer science to better prepare students for 21st century careers. (PA 19-128)
- We expanded the public school curriculum to include African-American, Puerto Rican and Latino studies. (PA 19-12)
- We allowed boards of education to offer more recess time for elementary school students to aid social and cognitive development, and physical wellness. (PA 19-173)
