South Norwalk School Update
Some good news news on the construction of the new South Norwalk Elementary School.

An update presented to city officials says it should be ready to open in the fall of this year. The new multi-million-dollar school will have a capacity of 682 pre-K through fifth grade students. It will be the first new elementary school to open in South Norwalk in more than 40 years.

Project managers reported the build is meeting budget goals while staying on-schedule. The workers have divided the project into two phases, focusing on the school's east wing first, then the west.

The following information is from Nancy on Norwalk
On the east wing of the school:

  • Significant progress has been made on the building's exterior. The primary structure has been completed and key barriers protecting the building from wind and moisture have been installed.
  • The brick veneer on the outside of the building is already in progress, giving a glimpse of what the school's walls will look like once completed.
  • Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work is underway. Including the installation of ductwork, fire sprinklers, and roof drains.

In the west wing:

  • Progress is slightly behind the east side.
  • Crews are still working on the exterior of the building.

Project managers say they should be able to confirm the expected completion date of the school by late April.
