Updates from State Rep. Travis Simms for April 10, 2026

April 10, 2026

It is always a privilege to hold the gavel in the chamber, and I was honored to preside at the dais during Wednesday’s session as we advanced several important measures, including the confirmation of judicial appointments that are vital to maintaining the strength and integrity of our courts.

As Deputy Speaker, I take great pride in helping guide the legislative process and ensuring that the voices of our communities are represented in every decision we make. On Thursday, we continued that important work with the passage of a bill that restructures how earmarks are awarded — an effort aimed at increasing transparency, accountability, and fairness in how state resources are distributed.

I remain committed to delivering thoughtful, responsible policy that reflects the needs of our district and strengthens our state. It is an honor to serve you and to play a leadership role in advancing legislation that makes a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Norwalk Police Support Autism Acceptance

This April, Norwalk Police Officers are proudly wearing custom patches to support Autism Acceptance Month to promote inclusion and understanding.

These patches were designed by one of our officers, helping bring awareness to an important cause in our community.

Beyond the patches, our department remains dedicated to specialized training and initiatives like the Blue Envelope program to ensure every interaction is handled with compassion and care.

Love Where You Live Celebration

From the city of Norwalk's webpage:

Love Where You Live is Norwalk’s month-long celebration of sustainability, environmental stewardship, and community pride. Throughout April, we will highlight ways that residents can connect with nature, care for our environment, and take simple actions that make a difference.

From tree plantings to recycling tips, park spotlights, and volunteer opportunities, there are many ways to participate! Together we’re working to keep Norwalk’s parks, neighborhoods, and waterways healthy for generations to come.

Explore the events calendar, discover local organizations making a difference, and find ways to get involved this April!

Visit our Love Where You Live page to get more information on how you can get involved and make a difference.

Fair Housing Forum

On April 16 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Community Partners will host a Community Resource Fair for Norwalk Fair Housing Month.

The event will be in the Community Room at Norwalk City Hall, where you'll learn about your housing rights and connect with local housing resources.

This is a free event and open to all Norwalk residents.

At the event you can learn about:

  • Fair housing rights and protections
  • How to recognize and report housing discrimination
  • Tenant and landlord rights and responsibilities
  • Local housing and community resources

Child Tax Credit Support

Connecticut families raising children are under real financial pressure. Costs keep rising, there is no wiggle room in their budgets. The CT Child Tax Credit would help change that. At $600 per child, it's a direct, efficient investment in working families across our state.

When families have more financial footing, they spend locally, reduce reliance on emergency services, and build the kind of stability their children need to thrive — and that strengthens our whole community. The numbers in this graphic show what that means right here in our district.

As always, feel free to call me at 1-800-842-8267 or email me at Travis.Simms@cga.ct.gov if you have any questions or concerns. Also, please like my official Facebook Page for regular updates.

Sincerely,

Travis Simms
State Representative
