Updates from State Rep. Travis Simms for July 25, 2025

July 25, 2025

I am proud to share that for the 2025 legislative session, I received a 92% voting score from the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters in its 2025 Environmental Scorecard.

At a time when we are seeing more of the effects of climate change, as well as trying to reduce our reliance on nonrenewable fossil fuels and our carbon footprint, these votes are more important now than ever.

I will always support protecting the environment, preserving our natural resources and fighting for environmental justice in our communities.

Wegmans Opens!

The much-anticipated Wegmans has finally opened in Norwalk at 675 Connecticut Ave. I am thrilled that the new grocery store opened in our city, improving the economy and giving people new choices to shop for food and other necessities.

Below are some pictures from the ribbon-cutting that took place on Tuesday.

SoNo Market Saturday

More great news: the SoNo Saturday Market will have its second event this Saturday, July 26,  from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with more than 20 new vendors attending, bringing the total to nearly 60.

Additional space is needed beyond the 50 Washington St. lawn, so the City will temporarily close a section of Washington Street to vehicles.

From the city's website:
From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Washington Street will be closed between the train bridge intersection (North Main/South Main/Washington) and the Webster Lot entrance.

The rest of Washington Street will remain open to vehicles, with no disruptions to accessing the South Norwalk Library or Post Office.

However, Madison Street will only allow local access, with no outlet to Washington Street. Detours will be available and visibly marked on Monroe Street and North Main Street.

A complete list of vendors can be found here: visitnorwalk.org/upcoming-events/sono-saturday-market

Attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy live music, a toddler play area, lawn games, bubbles, and relax on picnic blankets provided by the City of Norwalk throughout the lawn.

The Silent Book Club of Norwalk will also be onsite with extra blankets and a selection of books for guests to sit and read during the event.

Skate Nights

Tonight is Skate Night at Calf Pasture Beach from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Enjoy an evening of music, movement, and fun with DJ Dutch! Whether you're on a skateboard, rollerblades, or a bike—everyone’s welcome to roll. 🚲

FREE event – Norwalk residents must verify plates for free parking. Non-resident parking: $48 before 5 p.m., $30 after 5 p.m.
