Dear Neighbor,

Sessions can be like raising children. The days are long but the years -- or in this case months -- are short. There are just a couple of weeks left in this session, and the House continues to take up important legislation addressing housing, protecting immigrants, funding Medicaid and amending workers' compensation laws.

My focus remains on supporting legislation that makes a meaningful, positive difference for the people of Norwalk.

This week, I was proud to vote in favor of House Bill 5279, a measure that, among other provisions, strengthens Connecticut’s Trust Act. The bill passed with strong support in the House.

If approved by the Senate and signed into law by Governor Lamont, this legislation will help protect personal privacy and ensure that individuals are not detained at courthouses based solely on civil immigration matters. It’s an important step toward fostering fairness, dignity, and public safety in our communities.

It’s a bill rooted in fairness, dignity, and public safety.

Medical Debt Relief

Medical debt relief is coming to more than 100,000 Connecticut residents.

I’m proud to share that the second round of medical debt relief is on the way — funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and made possible through our partnership with the nonprofit Undue Medical Debt.

What to expect
Keep an eye out for an official letter from Undue Medical Debt. THIS IS NOT JUNK MAIL! There is no application process, no catch, just relief.

Who qualifies?

  • Individuals earning up to 400% of the federal poverty level
  • Those whose medical debt equals 5% or more of annual income

This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to health equity, financial relief, and a more compassionate healthcare system for all Connecticut residents. You can view a sample of what this letter looks like at https://shorturl.at/6XUQs.

Memorial Day Parades

The two Memorial Day parades in Norwalk are this weekend.

The Rowayton Memorial Day Parade is on Sunday, May 25 at noon, presented by the Rowayton Civic Association. Choose a spot along McKinley Ave. or Rowayton Ave. to cheer on our veterans, fire fighters, police officers, marching bands, local Little League players, nursery schools, and more. The parade finishes at Veteran’s Cannon Then head down to the fire station for hot dogs and soda! Learn more at www.rowaytoncivicassociation.org

The City of Norwalk Memorial Day Parade is on Monday, May 26, starting at 10 a.m. at Veteran’s Park (42 Seaview Ave.) and ends at the Town Green at East Ave. The C-130 plane flyover is back this year, courtesy of the 103rd Airlift Wing and 118th Airlift Squadron of the CT Air National Guard. This year, the city selected Lt. Col. Howard W. Dixon, USAF Retired, as the parade’s Grand Marshal. Dixon is a retired US Air Force pilot who flew worldwide missions for 23 years. He is the founder of the Advanced Airlift Tactics Technical Center (AATTC), located in Rosecrans Air National Guard Base in Missouri, with satellite locations in Australia and Spain. Dixon also serves as a Fire Commissioner for the City of Norwalk. Learn more at https://bit.ly/3Z94wjZ.
