Friends and Neighbors,

I hope this correspondence finds you well. I wanted to share some news, updates, and resources that may be beneficial to you.

I want to send a special thank you to the SONO Branch Library for allowing me to host my coffee hour there last Saturday, and I especially want to thank those who came!

As your State Representative, it is important for me to hear your concerns and try to make your life a little bit easier.  Whether it is at a coffee hour or any other time, if you have questions or need my assistance please reach out to me using the contact details at the bottom of this email.

Have a great weekend,

Travis

During session on Wednesday, we approved $17 million in additional cold weather heating assistance funds – many residents and families who receive assistance through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) or Operation Fuel will have access to funds to ensure they can heat their homes through the cold weather season.
As your State Representative, it is my responsibility to stand up for you. This funding essentially means none of our neighbors must choose between paying their bills or freezing.

I am committed to enhancing the safety and quality of life for all residents, and I will continue to do so throughout this legislative session.

Affordable Housing Tops List of My Priorities for 2024 Session
Affordable housing is a serious problem throughout Connecticut and I along with other members of the Norwalk delegation have placed it and education among our top priorities for the 2024 session. Please read our thoughts from a recent story in the Norwalk Hour by clicking on the image below.

Black History Month Moment
February is Black History Month and it is almost over - but not without me sharing some important moments, accomplishments, achievements, and contributions Black people have made to society that you may or may not know about. I want to start with this article from The Root, entitled, "You Can Thank Black Folks For That: Inventions That Changed Culture."

Otis Boykin created a control unit for the first successful pacemaker, a device implanted into the heart to help regulate the heartbeat. For his story and for many more Black people who made notable inventions to society, please click on the image below.

Community Events
Rockin' River Street will hold its first Mardi Gras Block Party this Saturday, February 17th, from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., at 7 River Street in Norwalk. To learn more about the joint production between Greer Southern Table, B.J. Ryan’s, and Banc House in celebration of Mardi Gras, please click on the image below.

Thanks for Joining My Coffee Hour!
Thanks to the SONO Branch Library and to all those who joined me for a Coffee Hour on Saturday! I work for you so I want to hear from you. Thanks again for coming. We'll do it again, soon.

Saturday is Random Acts of Kindness Day

“Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.” - Princess Diana

As always, feel free to call me at 1-800-842-8267 or email me at Travis.Simms@cga.ct.gov if you have any questions or concerns. Also, please like my official Facebook Page for regular updates.
