Milford Celebrates 250 Years of Independence

June 11, 2026

The City of Milford is celebrating 250 years of American history as the community comes together for a series of once-in-a-generation events honoring our nation’s founding.

To mark the milestone, the city recently released its most comprehensive list of patriots from the Revolutionary War connected to Milford. It was inspiring and humbling to learn more about some the nearly 400 courageous local heroes whose service helped secure American independence.

Organizers also recognized Revolutionary War prisoners buried in Milford, ensuring their stories are remembered alongside those who served on the battlefield. This information was compiled from military records, cemetery references, and original local documents. I am grateful to the local historians whose dedication and research have brought these stories to light and added deeper meaning to this historic anniversary.

It is important to remember that Milford’s earliest generations were born as subjects of the British crown and knew only a king as their ruler. The decision to support independence was far from certain, making the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom all the more remarkable.

The celebration continues next week with the Milford America 250 Grand Parade, a vibrant showcase of music, color, and hometown pride. Beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, the parade will feature marching bands, decorated floats, community organizations, and tributes to our nation’s history in a festive, family-friendly atmosphere.

The procession will begin at Wasson Field, turn onto West Main Street, travel down River Street, and continue along Milford’s historic Green.

I hope to see you there as we celebrate Milford’s rich history and the enduring ideals that gave birth to our nation 250 years ago.
