Representative Sean Scanlon has been chosen by AIDS Connecticut to receive their 2015 Clarence Daniels Award for Outstanding Advocacy for his efforts to pass Public Act 15-198: An Act Concerning Substance Abuse and Opioid Overdose Protection. The new law, PA 15-198, took effect on October 1st.

Expand Narcan To All First Responders

I hosted CT first responders, The CT AFL-CIO, Sen. Blumenthal and my colleagues Rep. Michelle Cook, Rep. Sean Scanlon and Rep. David Zoni to highlight a proposed bill to make Narcan available to local police and firefighters. Narcan saves lives by reversing heroin and opioid overdoses.

Connecticut 6th Healthiest State

December 10, 2015

Connecticut is the 6th healthiest state in the U.S. according to America’s Health Rankings Annual Report. The report found that since last year we have improved in the areas of infectious diseases, cancer deaths, and childhood poverty but still face challenges on drug-related deaths and health disparity. You can view the study here.

As Co-Chair of the Public Health Committee, I am happy to see Connecticut ranking in the top ten healthiest states in the country but recognize that there is always room for improvement.
