Governor Ned Lamont to Bring Rapid Rail Transit to Connecticut

January 18, 2019

I am pleased to see Governor Ned Lamont's focus on Connecticut's transportation infrastructure and make it more efficient for people to use.

His announcement of the ambitious 30-30-30 initiative would provide Connecticut residents with rapid rail line travel, moving our state's economy forward.

The initiative seeks to reduce train travel between Hartford to New Haven, New Haven to Stamford and Stamford to New York to 30 minutes each.

The development potential along the New Haven to Springfield line has yet to be realized. Transit-oriented development is exactly what millennials, retired people and many others are looking for now because they want access to home, work, social and cultural outlets without using a car.

Faster trains from New Haven to Stamford to New York is the key to unlocking the full economic potential of this state.

This initiative will attract economic development, jobs and tax revenues to propel the economy forward.

This session, I have partnered with the Newington Delegation to request grant funding for the construction of a train station in Newington that will connect to the Hartford Line, and to design and plan a Transit Design District to attract businesses and people to the area.

When we invest in our rail infrastructure, we make the state more accessible for our residents, and further reduce our reliance on cars.
