Happy to welcome my colleagues and members of our Black and Puerto Rican Caucus, and many constituents at a local town meeting in Waterbury, and listen to concerns and questions shared with us on local or state issues this past Saturday, March 16.

The 2019 Legislative Session is underway and having an open and honest dialogue with the people I represent is very important to me. I will be joining my colleagues, Senator Hartley and Rep. Reyes for coffee and conversation, this Saturday, February 23 and would like to hear from you.

This month we celebrate Black History month and I take pride in our rich and powerful history celebrating the many heroes, advocates, and individuals who paved the way so that people of color like me could have an equal place in society and in history. I also cherish and value the significant progress that was achieved by others who faced adversity, threats and even death through their endless fight for equality, but I recognize that today, more than ever, we must not give up on our call for justice and equal rights.

The impact on federal employees from the prolonged government shutdown is increasingly affecting the livelihood of over 1,500 Connecticut residents and their families. Each additional day they work for no pay - child care, mortgages, food and car payments, to name a few, are falling behind and there is no indication for when paychecks will resume.

I am excited to announce that I have been appointed to serve as Deputy Speaker by Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz for the 2019 Legislative Session.

There is still time to get quality and affordable health insurance coverage! With several new plan structures available this year, Access Health CT has decided to extend their enrollment period until Tuesday, Jan. 15.

This Saturday, Dec. 15, is the last day to enroll for health insurance through Access Health CT, so if you or anyone else you know is interested, then don’t delay.

Waterbury has been awarded $8.7 million for affordable housing. “This will have a positive effect on our city,” Rep. Larry B Butler said. “It will create 337 new units of housing in our community."
