Hard-working families in Connecticut got a boost the other day when Gov. Lamont signed legislation to increase the state’s minimum wage. I ran for office promising to raise the minimum wage because I believe anyone working a full-time job should earn enough to support themselves and their family. This legislation is a promise I kept, and a step in the right direction to benefit about 42 percent of all workers in Danbury.

Today is a great day for Connecticut. After many hours of debate over the Paid Family Medical Leave legislation, my colleagues and I were able to pass the bill, which the Senate had already approved. The bill now goes to the governor.

With the start of this year’s legislative session, my Democratic colleagues and I in the House of Representatives worked on new legislation as a result of more tragedies and people determined to harm others.

Today was AIDS Awareness Day at the State Capitol, and I was pleased to see members from APEX Community Care in Danbury.

This week, the house took action on a bill I co-sponsored to improve public health. House Bill 7200 seeks to prohibit the sale of cigarettes, tobacco products, electronic delivery systems, and vapor products to anyone under the age of 21.

During this year’s Danbury Day at the Capitol on Thursday, May 9, the Danbury Delegation joined the city’s schools, businesses and community organizations to honor the life and legacy of Danbury’s greatest citizen, Marian Anderson, who broke barriers for black artists in the United States, and four other remarkable individuals.

Connecticut is a leader when it comes to sensible gun safety laws. Yesterday, we continued our leadership on the issue by passing Ethan’s Law, legislation regulating ghost guns, and legislation increasing safe storage in motor vehicles.

State Representative Bob Godfrey met with Bill Murray, a retired Danbury educator and the current Vice President of Connecticut Education Association-Retired during Retired Teachers Lobby Day at the Capitol to discuss how the legislature can better serve retired educators.
