New laws went on the books effective July 1.

I am humbled and proud to receive the special honor of being named one of the 100 Most Influential Blacks in the state by the CT NAACP. I want to thank the NAACP Connecticut State Conference for selecting me and congratulate those who are also being recognized.

With 110 state parks and 32 state forests, the summer recreation and tourism season offers state residents and visitors numerous outdoor options to enjoy.

Due to the extreme and prolonged stretch of hot and humid weather, the governor has directed the Extreme Hot Weather Protocol to begin today at noon and remain in effect through Sunday at noon.

With the two-year $26 billion budget passed by the legislature last year remaining strong and in balance, we were able to make much-needed new investments in important areas such as higher education, early childcare, mental health services, and our non-profit community.

A celebration of all things Hartford on Thursday, May 2.

Hartford Day at the Capitol is a celebration of the food, businesses, people, and culture that make our city great. Participants get a chance to showcase their offerings to the hundreds of people who will be at the Capitol during the legislative session.

This event will be May 2 from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the North Lobby of the State Capitol.

As the elderly population steadily grows, there is an urgency to provide resources and assistance to this community.  During Monday's session, we took a significant step to achieving that goal by passing HB 5001, a top priority for House Democrats this session.
