Great news! The Aging Committee approved HB 5001, an omnibus bill that will provide further support to our seniors.

Last Saturday, I joined members of the Norwalk Common Council to host Black History Month program at the Bethel AME Church. Thank you to all who attended - I hope you found the experience enriching and informational.

I'm excited to share my commitment to protecting the environment and working to combat climate change. HB 5004 "An Act Concerning the Implementation of Certain Climate Change Measures," was subject to an Environment Committee public hearing on March 8 and was passed out of the Environment Committee 23-11 last week. It now heads to the House Floor for consideration.

Earlier this week, I joined Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling, Governor Lamont, officials from the Connecticut Department of Transportation and colleagues from the House for a site visit of the new and improved Merritt 7 Train Station.

One of the victims of the wrong way crash in West Haven a few weeks ago was a colleague, friend, and Norwalk resident. Samantha Pearl Birchard was one of the four people to lose their life in the crash, and it hurts to lose someone so close to you.

The 2024 legislative session officially began on Wednesday. This year is a short session - sine die is on May 8 - and that means we must hit the ground running to achieve our goals.

February is Black History Month, a time when we celebrate the many achievements and contributions of individuals from the Black diaspora, as well as reckon with the systemic racism from our past that is still prevalent today. The theme for this year's month-long celebration is “African Americans and the Arts,” which spotlights Black Americans who excelled in various fields of creative expression, and the influence they have on our country's culture.

On February 17, I will join members of the Norwalk Common Council for a Black History Month Celebration. The event will be held the the Bethel AME Church in Norwalk from Noon - 2 PM. Please join us and reach out to my office if you have any questions.
