It's the moment you've all been waiting for – the Connecticut State Capitol is officially open to the public! As of Tuesday, the Capitol and Legislative Office Building (LOB) are open to the public during regular business hours, with public access to the Capitol and LOB will be limited to the first floors of each building.

Hopefully we'll be seeing some cooler temperatures so that we may safely enjoy the holiday weekend – but if not, this email is packed with some tips to beat the heat during extreme temperatures or to cool off at one of the state's great museums (now offering FREE youth admission). However you are celebrating – I'm wishing you and your family a happy and safe Independence Day weekend!

Happy Summer! The start of this week marked the first day of Summer, and the end of a very busy 2021 Legislative Session and last week's Special Session. As we approach the quieter months here at the Legislative Office Building, I want to remind you that I am still available to you. It's been a challenging year to be a parent. With kids learning from home, we've had to be more creative and flexible than ever. Wishing all of you wonderful dads a Happy Father's Day weekend! I am also thinking of all of those who have lost a father – I hope you can look back on your memories together and share a happy story about them with someone you love.

The 2021 regular legislative session has officially come to an end. I am grateful for your input, participation and recommendations throughout the last few months as I worked with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to prioritize issues that you care about. We were able to pass a bipartisan budget, make historic investments in programs to further equity, adopt policies to address the disparities we encountered during the pandemic, and so much more.

There are only 4 days left before 2021 legislative session wraps up! We are working diligently to pass legislation that will help improve the quality of life for residents in our state and help address disparities.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! I hope you have a fun and safe Memorial Day with family and friends. As we begin the exciting transition to summer and enjoy a weekend full of picnics and barbecues, I hope you will also take a moment to remember why we celebrate this day.

Last week, the CDC released new guidance for fully vaccinated individuals. In accordance with these guidelines, the State of Connecticut has announced that as of May 19, fully vaccinated individuals will no longer need to wear masks or face coverings indoors or outdoors.
