I am proud to have been named the Legislator of the Year by Connecticut Water Works Association for my leadership on a wide range of issues affecting the quality and safety of Connecticut’s drinking water.

State Representative Jonathan Steinberg has been recognized by the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) for his support of environmental legislation during the 2017 legislative session and for his leadership on water planning and renewable energy.

The Legislature recently passed a budget. The Republican-generated budget passed because it garnered a handful of Democrat votes in both chambers, although it’s a “bi-partisan” budget in name only.

The opioid epidemic is a scourge, touching families in every town and city, across race, gender or socio-economic background. I'm particularly gratified that this legislation reflects a truly bi-partisan effort and involved experts across the spectrum. I believe it will bring real progress to end this crisis.

I spoke in favor of House Bill 6329, An Act concerning a hydraulic fracturing waste ban in Connecticut. No fracking waste currently moves into or is stored in the state because of a moratorium I helped institute a few years ago when we feared New York State might join Pennsylvania in allowing fracking. The moratorium is due to expire shortly and it seems time to institute a full ban -- particularly when so many Connecticut municipalities are in the process of banning fracking waste themselves.

The Yale School of Medicine has partnered with Yale New Haven Hospital in opening a center for genome analysis on Yale’s West Campus.

I was pleased to join with colleagues at a press conference with Save The Sound - CT Fund for Environment and colleagues highlighting World Water Day and all of the things that Connecticut is doing to ensure safe, clean drinking water and clean waterways across the state.

I joined with colleagues recently in support of House Bill 5743 increasing the penalties for hate crimes.
