The start of the school year is approaching quickly. This week, I'm breaking down how the state legislature is funding our colleges and universities, providing tips on back-to-school routines and social media posts, as well as explaining how much support our district will receive for summer mental health programs.

It’s that time again where we start winding down the summer and begin back-to-school preparations. I want to share news and events that will ease that transition for the upcoming school year.

Connecticut is one of 13 states to pass paid family and medical leave legislation. We should be proud of this program, which is held up as a national model for other states to emulate.

I was honored to participate in a discussion at the White House on Wednesday to discuss how Connecticut is improving child care. 91 legislators from 41 states convened to share recent child care policy achievements and to support their work to make child care more affordable.

Children and an accompanying adult will get into dozens of museums across the state for free once again thanks to the Connecticut Summer at the Museum program.

A number of new laws, that my colleagues and I worked on during the 2023 legislative session to implement meaningful change in our state, will take effect in Connecticut on July 1.

Governor Ned Lamont signed House Bill 6737, An Act Establishing the Crime of Harmful Communication with a Minor, into law. This creates a Class A Misdemeanor for any adult over the age of 25 who intentionally targets a minor through online communication for the purpose of exploiting or abusing that child.
