The 2020 legislative session will get underway on Wednesday, February 5^th and we will be working on many issues that affect Torrington and the state.

A fellow state representative received a voice mail message I wanted to share and warn IS A SCAM! My colleague called the number for verification and was surprised how professional they seemed on the phone. He was almost ready to offer his credit card information when he suspected it did not make sense.

This last year was filled with many triumphs, challenges, and opportunities. I heard from many residents in our district about the issues they were facing, like employer benefits and unemployment, keeping utilities on, health care issues, and so much more.

This January 1st not only marked the beginnings of a new year, it also meant the enactment of dozens of new laws and reforms for Connecticut residents. 

During a special session Wednesday I voted to approve an agreement between the State of Connecticut and the Connecticut Hospital Association, ending a dispute over tax and Medicaid reimbursement rates that has been hanging over us for the better part of a decade.

Here’s the truth: Connecticut is a great place to live, work, play, and raise a family. Data compiled by the Connecticut Economic Resource Center (CERC) shows Connecticut ranks high in many key categories related to quality of life, a highly skilled and highly trained workforce, business innovation, bioscience, education and recreation.

State Representatives Michelle Cook and Maria Horn, in conjunction with the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD), co-hosted NW CT Rare Disease Awareness Night Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Sullivan Senior Center in Torrington.

Deputy Speaker of the House Michelle L. Cook has been named Legislator of the Year by the Connecticut Association for Healthcare at Home. Rep. Cook was honored during the Association’s annual meeting at the Hartford Marriott Downtown Friday, October 25.
