In Full Support of the Tenants Union at Avon Place
August 14, 2025Tenants fed up with living conditions at Avon Place have decided to form a Tenants Union to negotiate with its out-of-state (and out of touch) landlord to address several concerns residents are facing, from mold and water leaks in apartments to non-working elevators to severe pothole damage around the property.
This comes on the heels of a fire that severely damaged the property last Spring, which displaced many families. The Town of Avon placed a $400,000 lien on the property resulting from the fire.
In total, the landlord owes $1 million in liens.
Avon Place rests in the district I represent.
Health and safety concerns of the residents are guiding their mission, and I was proud to join and stand with them at a press conference this week to announce the formation of the Tenants Union and sound the alarm on why its existence is necessary.
NBC Connecticut did a fine job covering the story, which included comments from Avon Place residents. Click HERE to watch.
The landlord must be held accountable. The residents deserve better, and I will stand with them in their quest to simply live among the conditions they're entitled to and pay for.
