Honoring MLK's Legacy

January 18, 2026

With Martin Luther King Jr. Day approaching, many of us recall the powerful words of “I Have a Dream.” That speech matters deeply, but Dr. King’s legacy is far bigger than a single moment or quotation.

Dr. King challenged our nation to confront injustice in all its forms — racial discrimination, economic inequality, barriers to voting, and the quiet acceptance of systems that leave people behind. He spoke not only of dreams, but of action: Organizing, legislating, marching, and building what he called the “Beloved Community,” where dignity and opportunity are shared by all.

Dr. King reminded us that progress is not inevitable. It requires courage, persistence, and a willingness to be uncomfortable in the pursuit of justice. He believed nonviolence was not passive, but a powerful force for change rooted in moral clarity and collective responsibility.

As we honor Dr. King today, let us do more than quote his most famous words. His work remains unfinished, and it is up to each generation to carry it forward.
