Updates from State Rep. Nick Gauthier for Oct. 24, 2025

October 24, 2025

Waterford has lost a pillar of our community.

Mr. Dembek has always been a friendly face and helping hand to me in my time serving on the RTM and to everyone in our community, especially through his tireless service at the Goshen Fire Department and Waterford Ambulance Service.

My deepest condolences to his family. I wish all of us who share the heavy loss of Mr. Dembek peace and love at this time.

Thank you Mr. Dembek for your endless service and dedication to our town.

In remembrance of Mr. Dembek, the Goshen Fire Department said the following on its Facebook page:

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Past Chief and life member, Thomas Dembek. Tom joined the fire department in 1969 and has been an active member ever since. Tom was dedicated to the town's emergency services in multiple ways. The majority of the time, Tom was the first person to arrive at an emergency in the Goshen district. He was a leader for many firemen, junior members and social members. He was a true fireman’s fireman.

Over his time in our department, he served in every rank. Tom was a member of the executive board for many years, always focusing on what he could do to make our firehouse a better place. Beyond our small firehouse, he was a member of the town’s RTM for many years, the emergency management committee, the radio committee and more.

Tom was a pillar in our community. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

We ask that you keep Tom’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

The Waterford Ambulance Service also remembered Mr. Dembek with the following:

The Waterford Ambulance Service, Inc. (WAS) team extends its sincere condolences on the passing of Mr. Thomas “Tommy" Dembek.

Tommy was a highly respected member of WAS for over fifty years, actively serving the community as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) well into his 70s. During his time with the organization, he held various roles, including Fleet Manager, Treasurer, and Board Member. Most notably, he served as a mentor to all new team members. His unwavering dedication to WAS and the Goshen Fire Department was truly admirable. Tommy’s steady commitment to both organizations meant that, in times of need, he was often responding or already on the scene. He was always dependable when providing support to others. It is because of Tommy’s hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others that Waterford Ambulance Service is the organization that it is today. Tommy truly empowered the organization's mission to provide prompt, effective, high-quality emergency care to the Waterford community. Tommy will be missed by the WAS team, but remembered through the knowledge and passion he passed along to each of us.

We encourage you to keep Tommy’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. We also want to thank everyone for supporting Tommy and appreciating his desire to help others.

The Waterford Fire Department also honored Mr. Dembek on its Facebook page with the following:

It is with deep respect and solemn reflection that the Waterford Fire Department announces the passing of Past Chief Thomas Dembek. Chief Dembek began his distinguished service in 1969 and devoted his life to the protection of the community and the advancement of this department. For over fifty years, whether in the fire department or town government he served with honor, wisdom, and unwavering dedication.

The Waterford Fire Department extends its sympathy to his family, friends, and loved ones; his leadership and commitment to duty have left an indelible mark on the Town of Waterford and its residents.
