Some great events are coming up at the Connecticut Riverfront and Bushnell Park. All are free admission and open to the public.

The 5th annual MOVE! 5K and Movement Festival is Saturday, July 18, in Hartford’s historic Keney Park. The event is hosted by the Urban League of Greater Hartford, in partnership with the Hartford Marathon Foundation (HMF) and presenting sponsors RTX and CVS Health.

As our nation celebrates its 250th anniversary, this 4th of July carries special significance.

We are in for a multi-day, extreme heat event this week. Excessively high temperatures can be dangerous for people’s health, especially among the elderly, young children, and those who work outdoors.

The governor has activated the Extreme Hot Weather Protocol that will remain in effect through at least 6 p.m. on July 5, which will open cooling centers around the state and offer resources to those in need.

On July 4, our country will celebrate its 250th Birthday, commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. With our state playing an important role in our country's founding, it's no surprise that Connecticut - and our Capital City of Hartford - would celebrate with events to commemorate this special occasion. 

Several new state laws that we passed during the 2026 legislative session will take effect on July 1.

Juneteenth – June 19 – commemorates and celebrates the end of slavery in the United States, but the important history of this now state and federal holiday was not widely known for many years.

Friday is Juneteenth, and there are many events and service opportunities available in the Capital City (and with our friends in East Hartford). Also, mark your calendars for the Caribbean American Heritage Month Small Business Expo on June 27!
